Monday we went to the doctor for my 16th week gender check. Grandma Edwards, Grandma Davidson and daddy were all there. Everyone was very nervous as we anxiously waited in the waiting room for my name to be called. What a day Monday was, I couldn't concentrate on anything at work. I drank some orange juice and listened to some dance music on the way home to make sure the baby was up and moving. It must've worked because thanks to my very full bladder we got some great pics of the baby....and an even greater picture of his "business". Hello to my baby boy Austin Robert Edwards!! Daddy was beside himself in excitement, grinning ear to ear. Everything is looking great and Austin is about 5 ounces right now. After the doctors we had to take him straight to the mall so he could buy a baby outfit. I think we walked out of there with maybe 6 or 7 tops. I'm still waiting t be able to feel him moving around. I'm feeling the flutters a little more often, but they're still hard to distinguish. Now that I know his name, I try to call him Austin all the time and talk to him so that hopefully maybe he will start responding. Every morning we listen to music on the way to work too. Lord help me I'm going to have 2 men around the house now....I can't wait :)
Week 16
Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length . Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. Baby Austin actually measured 5 oz. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. Watch what you say...tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean she can now pick up your voice. A few more minuscule changes: Eyebrows, lashes, and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming.
At any time, you will begin to feel fetal movement as your baby's bones harden. Your baby has plenty of room: At this point, he could fit in the palm of your hand. This is a great time to be a fetus. At any given time, he might be playing with the umbilical cord (which he's now able to grasp), putting his thumb in his mouth, or kicking at the amniotic sac.
